Your day.
As an Outpatient Pharmacy Tech you need to know how to:
- Assist with all phases of pharmacy services. Work with patients, providers, and insurance companies to obtain prior authorizations. Answer phones and notes from physicians in a timely manner. Accurately read, interpret and enter prescriptions in a timely manner. Route questionable prescriptions to the pharmacist for completion. Make outbound calls / faxing the physicians for prescription clarification, substitutions and formulary changes as needed.
- Prepare medication orders and deliver prescriptions according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Accurately type, bill and prepare prescriptions to extent allowed by state and federal rules and regulations. Perform basic calculations to determine doses and correct day supplies to be billed to 3rd party insurance companies. Perform necessary calculations to accurately prepare a compounded prescription.
- Evaluate and process approval of prior authorization pharmacy requests from prescribers received by telephone and/or facsimile using client clinical criteria. Communicate pharmacist's guidance on appropriateness of medication to physicians, physician's office staff, and medical management staff. Research, resolve and document prior authorization outcomes in pharmacy system. Communicate selected prior authorization criteria, pharmacy benefit coverage and formulary alternatives to physicians, physician's office staff, medical management staff and/or pharmacists. Escalate requests to Pharmacist when request requires extensive clinical review or denial. Research, resolve and document physician or client inquiries and grievances and provides verbal or written results to client, prescriber, provider and/or management.
- Handle cash, credit, and check transactions accurately. Reconcile cash drawers and prepare deposits.
- File prescriptions hardcopies, reports, and other pharmacy records. Provide information to associates regarding available pharmacy benefits and services. Complete inventory duties as scheduled, including outdates and overstock returns to wholesaler. Place orders for pharmacy inventory and supplies. Maintain cleanliness of pharmacy work areas and work to ensure a clutter-free work environment.
Your experience.
We hire people, not resumes. But we also expect excellence, which is why we require:
- High School diploma or equivalent, required
- Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) is required and must be maintained during employment.
- At least two (2) years of experience working as a Pharmacy Technician, preferred
- Previous retail pharmacy experience, preferred
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, highly preferred
