The Pharmacy Care Technician will perform various duties to support the organization’s medication and pharmacy related quality measures and initiatives (e.g. medication adherence, post hospital medication reconciliation, comprehensive medication reviews, coordinating prescribing protocols). The Pharmacy Care Technician will work closely with internal departments, patients, clinicians, retail pharmacies and contracted health plans to execute medication related quality strategies.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct outbound calls to identify and address barriers to medication adherence, statin therapy and other quality care gaps
- Process medication refill requests per protocol, facilitating non-protocol refill requests, coordinating prior authorizations, resolving other medication refill related issues or problems and participate in therapeutic drug conversion programs as they relate to medication quality initiatives
- Documents pertinent patient information in the electronic medical record
- Consult with the clinical pharmacist on any medication related activities or problems which fall outside the scope of a certified pharmacy technician
- Utilize contracted health plan portals and medical group data to develop actionable reports for prioritizing medication related quality initiatives and patient outreach
- Assist in data management to capture, track and report out on medication related QI metrics as it pertains to patient outreach and daily activities
- Participates in process improvement initiatives, site staff meetings and departmental meetings
- Collaborate with retail pharmacies, medical group providers and teammates on implementing strategies to improve medication adherence and close medication related quality gaps
- Support as liaison between contracted health plan pharmacy team and the medical group related to medication adherence data files, patient outreach and quality initiative programs
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Skills / Competencies:
- Broad knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology
- Ability to identify generic name for brand name drugs and vice versa
- Ability to demonstrate broad knowledge in understanding indication for medication

Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
- Completion of a pharmacy technician certification program approved by the California State Board of Pharmacy
- Must possess and maintain an active pharmacy technician license in the state of California
- 1+ years of experience as a pharmacy technician
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years of pharmacy-related experience
- 3+ years of experience with pharmacy prescription data entry
- Experience in managed care pharmacy (Pharmacy Benefits Manager, Medicare Advantage)
- Experience using EMR systems
- Knowledge of Medicare part D
- Knowledge of HIPAA
- Broad knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to identify generic name for brand name drugs and vice versa
- Ability to demonstrate broad knowledge in understanding indication for medication
- Ability to recognize potential drug discrepancies and barriers to adherence
- Ability to work in a relatively unsupervised environment with a high degree of accuracy

California Residents Only: The hourly range for California residents is $16.00 to $31.44.
